90 years young

My grandma Marj turns 90 years young on October 7. Even though that's about a month away, we celebrated early last week so I could travel and be there. We had a great time!! All of her kids (my mom, two sisters, and brother) were there, as were seven out of nine grand kids, and a whole lotta great grandkids.

I surprised grandma, and the family, with a proclamation from the mayor of Lima, Ohio, David Berger, proclaiming October 7, 2012 to be Marjorie L. Coby day in Lima. You can click on the link above to read it. I was pretty proud of myself for that one!

While we were in Ohio we also got a chance to see KW, JW, the boys, and the new baby. We met up at the Toledo Zoo and had a great time!

So glad I was able to travel before the baby arrives! Enjoy the pics.

The birthday queen... complete with her tiara!

Yes, we even had 90th birthday napkins.

The gorgeous and yummy cake!

He's so cute! My little cousin Daniel.

Sam and Jake... guess which animal we were about to see?!

Happy Birthday August

We went to our friend's little boy's 3rd birthday party this weekend, and had so much fun! It was a Cars theme, and let me tell you, I've never seen so much Cars stuff in one place in my life. CK, you sure do know how to throw a party! Thanks for having us!

Whew! What a weekend!

We haven't had a weekend like this in a really long time. For whatever reason, our social calendar was full! But we're not complaining. We had a blast and would do it again in a heart beat! Here's a pictorial recap. I hope you guys had a good weekend, too!

Friday - Drag Races
The O'Reilly Spring Nationals were this weekend at Royal Purple Raceway (I still want to call it Houston Raceway Park). We always try to go on Fridays because there are two rounds of qualifying, and it goes into the night, so it's cool to see the flames come off the cars as they leave the start line. It's just a fun day. The drag races are something Jay got me in to, and now I'm hooked. HUGE fan of the NHRA!

OK, so I'm an idiot, and didn't take any photos from this year's races. Duh! But this is from last year. John Force's car is in the far lane. He's pretty good.  :) So cool!!

Saturday - Golf Cart Poker Run
The 3rd annual Golf Cart Poker Run benefiting the Clear Creek Environmental Foundation. Oh my! This was our first time to do this, and what an event this was! It started at our neighbor's bar, Jackie's Brickhouse, with more than 100 golf carts. I'd say probably closer to 150. We even had our own police escort as we proceeded to the Elk Lodge, Alan's Swampshack, the Monkey Bar, Palapa's, and back to Jackie's. And let me tell you... this was amazing people watching! The more bars we hit, the drunker everyone got and the louder the music on the carts got. It was definitely fun. We didn't win the grand prize (golf cart), but it was still worth it. Our poker hand ended up being 2 Jacks, a nine, five and seven.

Our escort for the day! Thanks, Denise!

All of the golf carts driving down FM 2094.

This is about half of the carts in the parking lot in Kemah outside of Monkey Bar.

That's me and Jay!

Sunday - Madeleine's 1st birthday
We had a blast celebrating our "niece" Madeleine's first birthday. It was a cowboy / cowgirl theme with lots of kiddos and tons of fun. Tons of food and laughs, and we were so happy to celebrate the day with the Kimmel crew! Thanks for having us! We love y'all!

The spread of food. Yum!!

CK and her mom made - yes made - all of these for the kiddos. They were so cute!!

T-R-O-U-B-L-E. He's the big brother!

The birthday girl!

A little help blowing out the candle from big brother. I absolutely love this picture!

Not so sure about the cake or what to do with it...

but she quickly figured it out!

Sugar high!

All in all it was a great weekend. And with the news tonight about Osama Bin Laden being dead, it just got to be a really great weekend. I have a lot of thoughts going through my head about that right now, so I'll get back to that later. God bless our great country and our troops and their families. So proud to be an American!!!!

Update

Thank you to my loyal readers (all 3 of you, hehe) for pointing out that I haven't blogged in awhile. I'm well aware. It hasn't been because of lack of action or subject matter, but more because of this guy:

How cute is he?!?!?! My best friend and her husband, and their absolutely adorable little boy, came down last week for a visit for Spring Break, so we were hanging out with them. We hit San Antonio and Old Town Spring and had a great time. I couldn't get enough of the little one! (and his parents, of course!!) I was sad to see them leave, but we had a really great time with them.

Mom and dad's house in The Woodlands officially went on the market this past Saturday and they had a showing on Sunday! If any of you know someone who is looking to move to The Woodlands and is in need of a great 4,200 square foot house, I know just the one!

Now, updates on the house. Things are moving along rather quickly. About 90% of the siding is up, HVAC and electrical are being installed this week. We picked out the granite (so excited!) It's very rare that Jay and I absolutely, 100% agree on something, and we both fell in love with this piece when we saw it! We bought interior doors and outside lights this weekend. We still have to do the inside lights, but most of those are recessed cans, so that'll be easy. I guess that's it really. I'll leave you with some pictures.

Good news, bad news and good news again

I'll start with the good news. Jay and I are Aunt and Uncle again! YIPPEE!!!!!! Our friends, CK and J, had a baby boy this morning, and we hear he is healthy and beautiful. We are so happy and excited for our friends, and we can't wait to see pictures of AJK and eventually meet him! CK and J went through so much to bring him into this world, it truly is a blessing that he is finally here with us. We love you guys so much and can't wait for you to come home next summer for good!!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!

And now for the bad news. We found out yesterday that Jay has to have surgery on his knee (his sixth since we've been together... mind you, he never had surgery before he met me. I'm not implying anything, just sayin'). Apparently, in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, on the first day we were back at the house to clean up, when we were moving the refrigerator, the door opened (it was full of water and face down on the floor) and hit him on the left knee. At the time, he didn't really think anything of it, plus adrenaline was in full swing for a few weeks, so he didn't really notice it. It's been bothering him since then, so he finally gave in to see an orthopedic doctor out of UTMB. Turns out he tore the cartilage all the way down to the bone. The doctor likened it to a pothole in the road. Nice, eh? Surgery is now scheduled for the 29th. They'll do a scope for sure, as well as an OATS procedure, and most likely a regrowth procedure. The one that his doctor prefers involves drilling holes into the knee bone itself to allow the stem cells to regrow. Sounds painful just thinking about it. He'll be out for six weeks, on crutches, and then extensive rehab and PT.

And this is where I get mad. Not at Jay, but at Ike and our whole situation. Let me preface this by saying again, I am thankful we have a place to live. However, there are no full bathrooms on the bottom floor, so if, after surgery, Jay wishes to take a shower while he is on crutches and has to stay off of his leg, or if he wishes to sleep in bed with me, he must literally crawl somehow (probably backwards on his butt) up the stairs and then back down again (although, not backwards). At our house, he could simply hobble his way to the bathroom as there are no stairs. We were hoping to get started on construction on the house after the first part of the new year, but this may now be put off. We were planning on doing some things ourselves, but now it looks like we may have to rethink that plan. Actually, I know we'll have to rethink that plan. When does the madness and ridiculousness stop? Really. I'm tired of the continued fallout from the storm. It's really starting to piss me off.

And, because I don't want to be "Debbie Downer" today, I'll end on some good news. It may not be good news to all of you, but it's the little things in life that make me smile, and Chuy's jalapeno sauce makes me smile. I just happen to be going there for lunch today. I'll be sure to think of all of you (you know who you are) while I am stuffing my face with chips and jalapeno sauce.

Have a great weekend!

Cali 2008

Ok, so I know I haven't been the best blogger lately, and some of you are wanting pictures of our trip to California, so here you go. We had a great time. Thank you so much Josh and CK. We love you guys and can't wait for you to come home!

Our trip included wine tasting at three fabulous wineries (yes, I've already ordered a couple bottles online), and the Gilroy Garlic Festival. What an experience that was! So much food, and not a large enough stomach! If you're ever in California the last weekend of July, I highly recommend you go to the garlic festival. It was fabulous.

I'm going back to Cali, to Cali, to Cali...

In exactly two weeks from now, JF, me and some friends will be in Cali visiting CK! I can't wait. I don't really have anything else to blog about today, but I wanted to share in my excitement. While we are in Cali, we're going to the Guilroy Garlic Festival. Yes, a festival ALL ABOUT GARLIC! They apparently even have garlic ice cream. And then I think we're going wine tasting. What is better than garlic and wine? Um, I don't think much. So for those of you who are traveling with me, I hope you're as excited as me. For the rest of you, it sucks to be you! :)
